Read of the Week
This week I greatly enjoyed The Red Queen by Phillipa Gregory. The novel chronicles the life and rise of Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII. The book showed a side of Margaret rarely seen, the author portrays her as an unloved and overly pious young woman who thinks only of the power of her family and of putting her son Henry Tudor on the throne. It is a fascinating, fictional look at Margaret's complex life that is definitely worth a read!

I just bought it! Thanks for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Enjoy and I would advise you to read the rest of the Cousin's War series including Lady of the River, The White Queen and the newly released Kingmaker's daughter.
ReplyDeleteI loved this book, even my boyfriend did! I didn't know anything about Margaret Beaufort before I read it and now I'd like to know more.
ReplyDeleteHi Mikaela! You should read The Women of the Cousins' War (it has a great section on Margaret) as well as The King's Mother by Michael Jones and Margaret Beaufort: Mother of the Tudor Dynasty by Elizabeth Norton. I have all of them and they are exceptional! She was a fascinating woman.
